MRS. LYDIA COLEMAN HUTCHINSON

CH Caledonian Tea Time of Wolfpit

Lydia has been involved with dogs her entire life and attended her first dog show in 1949. The breed to which she has devoted her life is the Cairn Terrier, and her WOLFPIT KENNEL, shared with her deceased parents, has accounted for 240 A.K.C. Champions thusfar. It has also had numerous top winners and top producers, including CH. CAIRNWOODS QUINCE, CH. PERSIMMON OF WOLFPIT, CH. CALEDONIAN BERRY OF WOLFPIT, CH. CAIRNHOE HIGHLANDER OF WOLFPIT, and CH. CAIRNHOE ALLIANCE WITH WOLFPIT. Lydia was also involved with Miniature Poodles in her teen years.

Her judging career began in 1964 with approval for Cairns in 1964, followed by Poodles in 1966. Currently she is approved to judge Best in Show, all Terriers, all Toys, all Herding breeds, Giant and Standard Schnauzers and, of course, Poodles. She has judged specialties for many of these breeds and was the group judge for Terriers at Westminster 1997. She also has done international judging in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, England, Germany, Ireland, The Netherlands, Norway, Scotland, and Sweden.

Education is one of Lydia's key concerns, and she served as Education Chairman of the Cairn Terrier Club of America for 12 years and continues on that committee. In addition she is on the Judges Education team and has given dozens of presentations on Cairns, other short-legged Terriers, and Poodles in the U.S.A. and other countries. She is a past President of C.T.C.A., is currently on the Board of C.T.C.A. and the Potomac C.T.C., as well as serving as a Trustee of The Foundation of C.T.C.A. and Vice President of the Columbia Terrier Association of Maryland.

Her interests outside of dogs range from Bible study and church involvement to historic preservation and antiques to gardening, swimming and, of course, travel. She has been married since 1960 to Dwight Hutchinson, and they are the happy parents/grandparents of three children and five grandchildren who live in California, Connecticut, and Virginia.
